DIY: HOW TO SETUP YOUR OWN CHEMISTRY LAB WITH LITTLE MONEY

  1. Start by gathering basic supplies. This includes things like beakers, test tubes, graduated cylinders, pipettes, and a hot plate. You can find these supplies at most thrift stores or garage sales.

  2. Look for recycled materials. Many items that you would normally throw away can be used in a chemistry lab. For example, you can use old plastic bottles to store chemicals and old glass jars to mix chemicals.

  3. Get creative with your equipment. If you can't find a particular piece of equipment, you can often improvise. For example, you can use a coffee maker as a hot plate or a hair dryer to heat up chemicals.

  4. Choose a well-ventilated space. You don't want to be breathing in fumes from your experiments.

  5. Set up a work area. This should be a flat surface where you can safely perform your experiments.

  6. Label everything. This will help you keep track of your chemicals and equipment.

  7. Be careful with chemicals. Always wear safety glasses and gloves when handling chemicals.

  8. Buy chemicals in bulk. This is often cheaper than buying them in smaller quantities.

  9. Look for sales and discounts. Many chemical supply companies offer sales and discounts throughout the year.

  • Join a chemistry club. Many chemistry clubs offer discounts to their members.
